Stockton Silver Lake Camp

End of Plasse’s Road, Silver Lake, CA 95666
(209) 258-8810

Silver Lake at DuskSince 1921, Silver Lake Camp has hosted campers escaping the heat and bustle of the city for a fresher, more peaceful setting. Founded by the City of Stockton in 1921, the camp is located a half mile from Silver Lake in Amador County. Silver Lake  is 100 miles east of Stockton on HWY 88 and sits at an elevation of 7,200 feet. It is also less than an hour from Lake Tahoe.

Stockton Silver Lake Camp is located on land that is leased by the City of Stockton from the United States Forest Service (U.S.F.S.), Eldorado National Forest.  We operate the camp with the understanding that we will not violate Forest Service regulations.  Operated under a Special Use Permit by the U.S. Forest Service, Eldorado National Forest.  The camp welcomes all to enjoy the beauty of the High Sierra; from young to old and any ethnicity, are greeted with enthusiasm.

Directions:

From Stockton, take HWY 88 (Waterloo Rd.) east, continuing on HWY 88 for 52 miles beyond Jackson.   Slow down and make a sharp right turn onto Plasse’s Road; follow the road past Plasse’s Resort, then go to the left where the road forks. Camp is shortly beyond the end of the last paved area.

WE NEED YOU!

We need volunteers! We are seeking a naturalist who can lead organized hikes in the area around our camp, and who knows at least a little about the flora and fauna.  We need a program director who will help to organize and post lodge activities and work on campfires and skits with children.  We need a person to “man” the camp store for 5 or 6 hours each day.

There are many smaller tasks to be done.  If you can offer skills or talents and would like to be involved, please call Sharon at (209) 478-8968. There are some salary monies for some positions.  If you would like to come to planning meetings, you are welcome–same phone call.  New perspectives welcome!  We are not an exclusive board of high-level planners–we are a small group of hard-working people just like yourself who are desperately trying to keep Silver Lake Family Camp a viable recreation opportunity for everyday citizens.
