Winter Greetings, Campers!

December 26th, 2011

The Silver Lake Campers Association would like to sincerely thank Joe Bryson Sr. and Joe Bryson, Jr. for their generous donation of a generator/welder to our camp, as well as a badly-needed wood splitter. We are indebted to these two for their support of our camp. We hope our other “camp faithfuls” will patronize their Heating and Air Business and let them know how grateful we are.

2012 Rates are out for family camp. We have deliberated long and hard in coming up with our next year’s rates, and crunched a lot of numbers. As you probably already know, we have been in a tight financial crunch for some time now, and have had every conceivable setback, beginning with the weather last spring and ending with an expensive generator-breakdown. We want our camp to be family-friendly and hope these rates will ease the crunch for our families:

Adults, 18 and over $75.
Teens 14-17 25.
Youth 7-13 15.
6 and under Free

Two more things: A single adult in a cabin will be charged $100 per night. Also, all those who pre-reserved their spot while at camp last summer will be receiving the promised 3% “loyalty” discount across the board.

We ask that all our loyal campers who read this, please reach out as much as possible to promote this camp–our survival seriously depends upon it. Think about this: If every family who regularly comes to camp will bring in only ONE other family (think hairdresser, barber, dental hygienist, favorite teller or grocery clerk, best cousin, etc.–simply plant a seed!), we would be over-the-top financially healthier. Please do your part to help us grow–a challenge in this economy (ouch!)

Wishing our campers and supporters the happiest of holidays!

Bob Bonfilio
President, SLCA

Looking for a Spot to Make a Tax Free Donation????

June 1st, 2011

Send your donation to United Way (401 E. Main Street, Stockton, CA 95201) with the specification that you would like to have the funds forwarded to the Silver Lake Campers Association.  In this way, the money will definitely benefit the needs of this half century plus year old camp in the High Sierras which has been a well loved treasure by many in the Stockton area, as well as individuals from outside of the community, many of whom have returned year after year, as have subsequent generations, to enjoy the beauty of the surroundings.  When the City of Stockton made the decision to close the camp in 2009, it was through the efforts of the volunteer members of the Association that the camp has been able to continue to meet the needs of the community.  Your generosity, at this time of need, will be greatly appreciated by future generations to come!

A Message From The Silver Lake Campers Association…

March 16th, 2011

Silver Lake Campers Association is a nonprofit group that has supported the City of Stockton’s operation of Silver Lake Family Camp for more than 50 years. In the past, the Association has provided “those little extras” that enhance the Family Camp experience.  In 2009, the Silver Lake Campers Association stepped in to fill the void that was left when the camp was to be closed by the City of Stockton. By taking over the operation of the camp, SLCA allowed campers to enjoy the benefits the beautiful area has to offer.  Make Silver Lake part of your vacation plans.  Encourage your family and friends to sign up as well!

Anyone interested in joining the Association may phone Sharon Waugh at (209) 478-8968.

Stockton’s Mayor & Long Time Campers Praise Our Camp!

March 15th, 2011
Taken from Mayor Ann Johnston’s State of the City address and quoted inThe Record on May 14, 2010: Johnson called a nonprofit group that took over operation of the city’s municipal camp at Silver Lake, saving it from closure, a “shining example of the heart and soul of the city.
Taken from an article written by Lori Gilbert about Stockton Silver Lake Camp and quoted in The Record on April 17, 2010:
“It’s one shining light Stockton has. It should be advertised everywhere. Stockton may be the saddest, most illiterate and all kinds of things, but this is a diamond. It was meant to be. It’s got soul now. It’s not a shell of a place. It’s honestly got a soul. It feels vivacious, vibrant. It’s going to make it.” Wendy Frush, camper for over 56 years and former camp employee.
“There was such a positive attitude up there last summer. Not that it wasn’t there in the past; it just seemed more so. We thought. ‘How are they going to pull this off?’ It’s a monumental task. I don’t know if I would have taken that on. We were pleasantly surprised at how positive everybody was.” Sue Chinchiolo, camper for more than 30 years.
